Inside the VPPiQ Home platform

Intelligence that
follows through.

From the rhythm of your home to the next energy decision.

VPPiQ Home connects household history, forecasts and your priorities in one operating loop. It builds a plan, checks what can happen, and keeps track of what happens next.

A household picture, built over time

It starts with
understanding your home.

Your morning and evening patterns. The solar your system produces. The reserve you want to keep. These pieces give planning its context, while new data keeps that picture current.

HISTORY → CONTEXT

A picture built from your home.

Recorded energy use gives the forecast household context. Time of day, patterns across the week and weather help it estimate what your home may need next.

Household energy historyLocal time & day of weekWeather context

Learning starts with usable history. Gaps and stale information can limit readiness; elapsed time alone is not enough.

Good learning needs useful data.

Available history can help establish patterns. Observation also checks whether the connected home is ready. Data coverage, freshness, equipment and your Intelligence settings determine the path to automation. Preview lets you see plans without automatically applying them.

The intelligence in motion

A plan is the beginning.
Follow what comes next.

Eight connected stages carry a decision from observation to a new plan. Select a stage to see its purpose, the evidence behind it and the conditions that matter.

01 / Observe

Bring the household into view.

Gather available energy history, current battery and vehicle state, weather and electricity prices into the household’s local-time context.

IN EVERYDAY TERMS

Before planning storage for the evening, establish how much energy is already in the battery.

Missing or stale data can limit what the platform is ready to plan or apply.

The evidence behind this step
  1. Energy history
  2. Current state
  3. Household context

What the platform records or checks

  • Time-aligned energy records
  • Source and freshness information
  • Household settings and device capabilities

Explore the process. These controls explain the platform; they do not operate equipment.

Under the hood

Considered decisions.
Checks that go deeper.

Explore the engineering behind the plan. Each layer has a defined job, from weighing tomorrow’s opportunities to establishing what the equipment actually did.

01Optimisation across the whole dayConsider the next decision and what it leaves available for later.

Every interval affects the next.

VPPiQ Home plans across 48 half-hour intervals. A deterministic mathematical optimiser weighs import and export prices, forecast demand and solar, battery use and planned EV needs together. Energy left in the battery at the end of the horizon also has value.

  1. LOOK AHEADEnergy needs and price windows
  2. WEIGH THE CHOICESUse now, store or retain for later
  3. KEEP THE REASONPlanned flows and decision evidence
  • Charging losses, battery throughput and changes in operating direction affect the trade-offs.
  • Your planning profile changes priorities within the same permission and equipment boundaries.
  • A Self Use plan can be selected when a more active plan does not offer sufficient modelled value.

In technical terms: mixed-integer optimisation using HiGHS. Solver acceptance and validation still apply; this is not a promise of maximum profit or a guaranteed saving.

02The limits of real equipmentA useful plan must fit the battery, inverter, vehicle and site.

Capacity is only one part of the picture.

The planner considers available battery energy, charge and discharge power, inverter limits and configured site import and export limits. EV charging also depends on supported charging capability, connection and the time remaining before the goal.

  1. STORAGEAvailable energy and reserve
  2. POWERCharging, inverter and site limits
  3. CONTROLSupported schedules and commands
  • Energy balance connects solar, grid, battery and household demand across each interval.
  • The model prevents conflicting battery charging and discharging, or grid importing and exporting, within the same interval.
  • Equipment-mode checks test whether the proposed flows can be represented by the supported controls.

Configured limits must match the installation. Software planning does not replace the equipment’s electrical protections or guarantee backup power during an outage.

03Permissions before preferencesAn attractive opportunity does not grant authority to act.

Your choices define the permitted actions.

Permissions for grid charging and exporting stored battery energy restrict what the planner can choose. A profile such as Maximum Profit changes how eligible options are ranked; it cannot enable an action you have not allowed.

  1. YOUR PERMISSIONWhich actions are allowed?
  2. YOUR PRIORITIESWhich valid options suit the home?
  3. EXECUTION CHECKSMay this action run now?
  • Preview creates plans without automatically applying their device actions.
  • Execution checks the current plan, automation settings, readiness and supported provider controls.
  • Manual overrides have their own control and return behaviour. Returning to automation depends on which control was used and the current settings.

Making a validated plan current is separate from applying it. A new plan replaces the older generation so delayed work must still establish that it belongs to the current plan.

04Validation beyond the optimiserReplay the proposed result, then check the equipment modes.

A solver result still needs to be checked.

Separate simulation logic replays the proposed energy flows. It checks battery continuity, energy balance, reserves, power limits, permissions and operating rules. A further executable-schedule simulation checks how those decisions translate into equipment modes.

  1. PROPOSEOptimiser produces a candidate
  2. REPLAYSeparate physical simulation
  3. TRANSLATE & CHECKExecutable equipment modes
  • The solver must meet its acceptance rules before its result can proceed.
  • Physical feasibility and executable equipment behaviour are distinct checks.
  • A fallback also needs to pass validation. If a valid result cannot be established, the new plan cannot proceed to activation.

Independent means separate checking logic within VPPiQ Home, not external certification. Simulation tests the model; device response still needs its own evidence.

05When conditions are imperfectDifferent problems need different fallback and recovery paths.

Keep the uncertainty visible.

An unavailable forecast, a rejected plan and an inconclusive provider response are different events. VPPiQ Home records the condition and follows the relevant planning or execution path.

  1. FORECAST PROBLEMLabel the fallback inputs
  2. PLANNING PROBLEMCheck a fallback or block the plan
  3. PROVIDER PROBLEMRecord status and recovery evidence
  • Unavailable or rejected AI forecast: use an available deterministic history-based forecast, with fallback-source and data-quality warnings. Missing required inputs can prevent a new plan.
  • Unacceptable or invalid optimisation: attempt a Self Use fallback. If the required simulations do not pass, the new plan remains blocked. Blocking a new plan does not by itself cancel a schedule already stored on the device.
  • Provider failure: supported recovery may attempt to disable the schedule and restore Self Use. Recovery is also checked and can fail, leaving an issue requiring attention.

An accepted but unconfirmed battery schedule can remain applied-unconfirmed after a bounded confirmation retry. It is not automatically treated as a failed action or a verified recovery.

06From a command to device evidenceRequested, accepted, confirmed and observed mean different things.

Check how far the action actually got.

For supported battery schedules, VPPiQ Home reads back provider settings and compares a normalised schedule with the intended configuration. EV runtime decisions also use available connection and charging state. Confirmation depends on the integration and evidence available.

  1. REQUEST & RESPONSEWas the instruction accepted?
  2. CONFIGURATIONDoes available readback match?
  3. OBSERVED OPERATIONWhat does device evidence show?
  • A provider accepting a command establishes a response, not physical energy delivery.
  • Matching schedule readback establishes the stored configuration. Unconfirmed or failed states remain distinguishable.
  • Later telemetry and energy records establish observed operation, subject to coverage and freshness.

These are evidence levels, not a live status display. Not every provider exposes the same confirmation signals, and a matching schedule does not prove all future actions will happen.

07Measurement with a stated basisSeparate forecast benefit, recorded energy and modelled value.

A fair comparison needs more than a number.

Outcome analysis uses recorded operation and a defined, modelled Self Use baseline. That baseline asks how the home could have operated without the active plan; it is a comparison model, not a second measured household.

  1. FORECASTExpected benefit under assumptions
  2. RECORDEDObserved energy with coverage
  3. MODELLED COMPARISONValue against a stated baseline
  • Coverage and source quality matter. Missing telemetry is not silently counted as zero energy.
  • Battery wear assumptions and differences in stored energy affect the value comparison.
  • Incomplete or provisional evidence can leave results partial or pending. A forecast does not become a realised result simply because time has passed.

A modelled value comparison is not a bill-confirmed saving. This explanation includes no customer savings claim or guaranteed financial outcome.

Clarity at every handover

Know what was expected.
See what was established.

The value comes from connecting the decisions and their evidence. A forecast, an accepted command and recorded energy each tell a different part of the story.

01 / EXPECTED

A reasoned plan.

Forecasts, prices and preferences explain what the plan intends to do. Independent checks test whether that plan fits its boundaries.

An expectation, with assumptions
02 / ATTEMPTED & CONFIRMED

A traceable action.

Provider responses and available readback show how far an action progressed. Unconfirmed results remain visible as unconfirmed.

A response, with a status
03 / RECORDED

An outcome with context.

Energy records establish what happened. Comparisons disclose their baseline and data coverage; forecast benefits remain separate from measured results.
